Design Notes: The Process

The design process for the Tomoe bag began with an ideation phase where we analyzed the market and identified a gap for a product designed for women who defy traditional stereotypes. This led us to consider the needs of a new generation of women seeking a practical, functional, and at the same time, elegant accessory.

Next, we conducted research on visual references and materials. The goal was to find inspiration for a design that would reflect our concept, inspired by Tomoe as a symbol of resilience and innovation. One of the bag’s key features is its identity as a dry bag, an accessory typical of outdoor and sports contexts. Defying these conventions, we reinterpreted it in a more fashionable context, bringing the idea of functionality and performance into a different setting.

During the design phase, we developed several proposals and versions to identify which solution worked best. We worked closely with our technicians to test and improve every aspect of the product. This development phase included researching and selecting the most suitable material, focusing on sustainable and durable options.

Various prototypes allowed us to make adjustments based on feedback received. Each version brought us closer to a more refined result, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics. During this phase, we explored color choices and opted for a distinctive stormy blue-grey, inspired by the sky before a storm. This color represents an impending revolution, just like Tomoe, our muse.

After finalizing the details, we prepared for production. In parallel, we collaborated with Dirilievo to develop the content and storytelling for the bag, ensuring the message and values of the project were effectively communicated.

The result is a bag that’s not just an accessory but a symbol of change. The Tomoe bag is designed to accompany women in their daily lives, offering a product that reflects their strength and individuality.
