Tomoe: Nor Gods Nor Demons
Tomoe takes its name from Tomoe Gozen, a samurai warrior who forged her path in a male-dominated world, becoming legendary for her courage and victories—she who feared neither gods nor demons. However, like many female figures in history, she has often been forgotten or downplayed, as her being a woman did not fit the rules of the time. This ethos informs our approach: creating products that defy convention and serve a distinct purpose. Our idea is to carry her spirit forward, designed for women who do not identify with stereotypes or conventions and live according to their own values.
We created a product that defies rigid structures: a reinvented dry bag for evening use. Starting with a technical, functional accessory tied to the outdoors and often associated with a masculine aesthetic, we transformed it into a 2-liter mini bag for evening wear. Our bag is essential and androgynous, positioned at the intersection of functionality and style, expressing an elegance free from gender or stylistic classification.
Tomoe taught us that contrast can be a strength. Likewise, our bag combines the outdoor identity of a dry bag with the elegance of fashion, creating an accessory that defies expectations and plays outside the lines. Like Tomoe and countless other women who have claimed their space, our bag reinterprets traditional codes. It’s not just an evening bag; it’s a statement, a symbol for those who appreciate contrasts and seek something unconventional.
Tomoe symbolizes freedom from labels and prejudices, and the bag carries this legacy on a spiritual level. It’s not an accessory for those seeking validation; it’s a piece that respects the journey of those who, like Tomoe, look beyond expectations and embrace the concepts of strength and independence.
